Latest: Back in Europe April 2023

I grew up in the US, but now I'm based in London, though I can't really call it home since I mostly live on the road traveling! My goal with Work Away is to experience many different cultures and gain experience in other areas. I come from a finance background and also have experience in Social Media & Event Planning.

I'm interested in opening a hostel in Europe, during the last few years I have spent a lot of time volunteering and working with hostels to learn and share experiences. I take every experience on as if it was my own business, so I approach my stay with great passion and responsibility!

I’ve come to learn, there is more than one way to live and be successful in our lives. Shortly after I began traveling the novelty of traveling for the sake of it wore off and I wanted to experience something more productive. I began to volunteer in a variety of fields while I was in Southeast Asia, it gave a deeper connection to the places I was visiting rather than being a tourist passing by.

Now I can't imagine any other style of travel!

Most recently I have volunteered in many hostels & home-stays. Anywhere from reception work to managing the hostel, socializing with guests, planning events & activities, and creating atmosphere.

Here are some of my favorite experiences so far:

Thailand: I worked closely with many hostels in Thailand planning events, pub crawls, and tours with the guests. It was such a blast learning the local culture and living the Thai lifestyle.

Cambodia: On an island Eco-Resort I worked in the restaurant and beach bar, as well as assisting in the daily operations. The laid back island lifestyle wasn't hard to get into at all!

Vietnam: I spent a few weeks in a small village teaching English to young children, I found it to be incredibly rewarding.

Montenegro: I worked with a family run hostel, entertaining the guests and planning events. Daily boat trips around the Adriatic coast! They were voted best hostel in the country for 2018!

Myanmar: By far one of my most amazing experiences, I led motorbike/e-bike tours for sunrises and sunsets, as well as organized sunset boat trips. Leading large groups of 20-30 people we had a blast and ended the month with wonderful reviews from the guests.

In most of my WorkAway experiences, I have helped revamp Social Media agendas and spent time working closely with owners in order to optimize their online presence. I find it to be a very important aspect of your business and I am happy to share what I've learned.

I've gained so many wonderful experiences and learned new skills while volunteering, but I am eager to continue learning more!

I know many people use WorkAway to save money or extend their travels, which I greatly appreciate the opportunity. My main goal, however, is experiences and friendships! I like to make a local connection and leave my mark everywhere I visit.

So if we work together, I hope we can make real friendships and learn from each other, more than just a job!

I am very eager to gain some new experiences and learn about local cultures.
I'm also especially happy to try new foods and diets!

Hello, Nikos help us in breakfast and also in reception what i can say that he is really dependable because for breakfast he would wake up early and talk to our guest. It is really nice of him. I stayed here for 2 weeks just after the summer season, the work is fair and the place is very clean and comfortable! The staff is wonderful and very friendly. The location is perfectly central in Athens so you can get anywhere easily! The owner Ioanna is very helpful and accommodating. Most definitely recommend for your stay in Athens!

I stayed with Diksha and the family for a month helping them get their hostel open, immediately from the first day they made me feel welcome! They are close to the beach and you can easily get around by scooter in the area. The food is really tasty and the family will show you the local lifestyle and culture and everything you need to do in Goa.
